  I was a little wary coming to this place because a reviewer whom I have tremendous respect for had a very bad experience here, but I decided to give it a shot based on better, more recent reviews.
  
  My risk was rewarded. The Lexington style bbq was prepared very well, with a hint of smoke, very tender but with a little chew to it that I think is perfect - optimal tenderness without being mushy. It also had some delicious brown bits and a little bit of cracklins. Just the right amount, no trash or tough bits. Barbecue slaw was good and the hushpuppies were hot, fresh, crispy and yummy.
  
  The service was polite and all in all I had a very good experience.

  Fantastic, local eatery!
  
  Go here for tasty BBQ, scrumptious hush puppies and a variety of hearty sides. I was visiting this area of NC and was craving some local goodness and I was not disappointed. Great sweet tea and coleslaw, also!
  
  Friendly and prompt service. Prices were very reasonable. The menu is filled with options, so it's family-friendly. Sandwiches, many types of meats, seafood, and other southern-style platters.

  When you've been coming to a restaurant for nearly 25 years, it is a major blow to have such a terrible dining experience as we did today at lunch, especially since we specifically drove to Granite Quarry to eat here. We arrived a little after 10:30, and I ask if lunch was being served, as well as breakfast, and we were assured that it was.
  
  We placed our order - Chopped BBQ Sandwich, Cheeseburger, Chili Dog, FFs, and Onion Rings and waited, and waited, and waited some more. I watched as 7 tables that arrived after us were served their food, and after 25 minutes I went up to the counter to find out what was going on. I was told they were processing the breakfast orders first, and they were working on ours now - that would have been nice to know at the front end, when I ask about the availability of lunch!
  
  Finally the Cheeseburger, BBQ Sandwich, FFs, and Onion Rings showed up, and I was told that they were "working" on the hot dog - this nearly 30 minutes after we placed the order - and finally it did show up, and as it turned out, that was not necessarily a good thing. The food, across the board, was simply awful. The Chopped BBQ, which I had always felt was among the very best Lexington style'cue, was stale tasting and very, very dry - so dry that chunks of meat fell out of the sandwich as you tried to eat it - just bad, bad pig - and a lot of additional sauce didn't improve it much.
  
  The Hot Dog tasted horrible, as well - the chili had the distinctive taste of a cheap, commercially prepared product, and the bun was so over toasted that the very brown, outside surface crumbled to the touch. The FFs were grossly under cooked and under seasoned, basically inedible. The Cheeseburger was the best of the lot but that was due strictly to the company it was keeping - there was a minimum of cheese, and the bun was stale and dry.
  
  Even paying the tab was an irritating process, as the airhead at the register had to look up each price while flirting with the 2 young men in front of me. Nobody ask if everything was alright, which in retrospect, was probably a good thing. See no reason to return here, ever!

  Great service, delicious BBQ. I happened upon this place while seeing folks in the county. Decided to stop. The servers were friendly and seemed genuinely concerned that I was happy with my food. The HUSH PUPPIES are HUGE and DELICIOUS. I had a BBQ plate and ate every bit of it. I prefer the sweet sauce, but vinegar is available, too. If I'm in the area again, I'll eat here! Highly recommend.

  We frequent M&K quite a bit.  It is an old-line meat and three kind of place.  But, it also a huge variety of choices.  You can get everything there from barbeque to fried shrimp to hamburgers and even fried chicken livers (although I am not personally a fan of the last one, others are).
  
  The place is always clean and neat although dated in décor.  That is a part of it's charm.  This is the type of place you can eat at every day if you wished.  With such a varied menu and moderate prices to match, it is much like eating at home.
  
  I recommend that you try this place if you are looking for a good, hearty meal with generous portions for an every day price.  Most of the patrons are regulars.  The staff knows them by name.  Overall, the food quality is good.  The value is excellent.  The staff is always friendly and makes sure that you have things just the way you want them.  
  
  As you can tell, I really like this place.  It is great for what it is - a good daily meal at a moderate price with friendly and fast service.  I find it hard to believe that anyone who patronizes M&K can find any fault in how they operate unless their expectations are for something more elegant.
  
  I love M&K just the way they are.
